Who should study AWS Cloud Practitioner?

Build your study plan

  1. Focus most of your study time on Cloud Technology and Services (34%) — know the core services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM) and when to use each one.
  2. Create a cheat sheet of AWS service categories: compute (EC2, Lambda, ECS), storage (S3, EBS, EFS), database (RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora), and networking (VPC, CloudFront, Route 53).
  3. Understand the Shared Responsibility Model thoroughly — know exactly what AWS manages (security OF the cloud) vs. what the customer manages (security IN the cloud).
  4. Use the AWS Free Tier to get hands-on experience launching EC2 instances, creating S3 buckets, and exploring the AWS Console — practical experience reinforces concepts.
  5. Study AWS pricing models (On-Demand, Reserved, Spot, Savings Plans) and support options. Basic, Developer, Business, and Enterprise appear in older material; compare these with the current support catalog and its transition to Business Support+.

Skills to review

Cloud Concepts
Define the AWS Cloud value proposition, identify aspects of AWS Cloud economics, and explain cloud architecture design principles.
Security and Compliance
Define the AWS shared responsibility model, security and compliance concepts, and AWS access management capabilities.
Cloud Technology and Services
Define methods of deploying and operating in the AWS Cloud, define AWS global infrastructure, and identify AWS compute, database, network, and storage services.
Billing, Pricing, and Support
Compare AWS pricing models, understand account structures for billing, and identify resources available for billing support.

When you use a cloud lab, check the account’s trial limits and pricing first. Set a budget and remove resources when you finish.

Try these AWS Cloud Practitioner questions

Choose an answer, then read the explanation. These independent examples support learning; they do not predict your exam result.

1. Which AWS service provides a virtual private network isolated from the public internet?

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: Amazon VPC. Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) lets you provision a logically isolated section of the AWS Cloud where you can launch AWS resources in a virtual network that you define.

2. What is the AWS shared responsibility model?

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: AWS manages security OF the cloud; customers manage security IN the cloud. The shared responsibility model divides security responsibilities between AWS (security of the cloud infrastructure) and the customer (security of their data, applications, and configurations within the cloud).

3. Which AWS support plan provides 24/7 access to Cloud Support Engineers?

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: Business. The Business support plan and higher (Business, Enterprise On-Ramp, Enterprise) provide 24/7 access to Cloud Support Engineers via phone, chat, and email for production system impairments.

How long should I study for AWS Cloud Practitioner?

Most candidates study 2-4 weeks with 1-2 hours daily. Those with some cloud experience may need less time. Focus on understanding cloud concepts, core AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS), pricing models, and the shared responsibility model.

What comes after AWS Cloud Practitioner certification?

After Cloud Practitioner, choose an associate path that fits your work: Solutions Architect, Developer, or CloudOps Engineer. CloudOps Engineer is the current name for the former SysOps Administrator Associate path.

Is AWS Cloud Practitioner enough to get a job?
